Here’s some information about me!
My name is Paola Barbagallo and I am a Sicilian freelance translator, specialized in translation for the Web and subtitling for audiovisual products.
I have been studying English and French since I was a child, and translation has always been part of my school and university career: I began with songs lyrics up to the Greek and Latin literary translations; then, I chose to study Languages at the University of Catania and to apply my knowledge to the Web, which has opened many doors to me on this profession.

All my work experiences involved languages, thus giving me the opportunity, right from the start, to use and strengthen my skills not only in the working languages (English and French), but also in my mother tongue, Italian. My first translation experiences are related to the volunteering world, where I made my skills available for the translation of different types of material into Italian.
In the meantime, my love for TV shows introduced me to the world of Audiovisual Translation, which I first approached privately, then academically.
Today, I work mainly in the audiovisual field, taking care of the creation or correction of subtitles in Italian, translated from English, for audiovisual products: TV shows, movies, documentaries, commercials, promotional videos, video lessons, YouTube channels, and more. Every other form of translation I deal with is almost always Web-related: content for websites, blog posts, product lists, emails and customer support, and more.

The professional experiences carried out so far have allowed me to work on different types of text: from texts for children, to the more technical ones, like instruction manuals; from historical documentaries to sci-fi series; from texts related to tourism, to those related to fashion. This reinforced in me the idea that “variety is a value”: in the experience accumulated over the years, I had to analyze, study and assimilate different themes and topics before being able to properly translate them.
